Honoring Women in Trucking: Celebrating Women's History Month at 6th Street Logistics
At 6th Street Logistics, we know that the trucking industry wouldn’t be where it is today without the strength, resilience, and leadership of women. This Women’s History Month, we’re proud to recognize the trailblazing women who have paved the way in transportation — and the incredible women who keep our company moving forward every day.
The Women Who Paved the Way
Women have played a vital role in trucking for over a century, even when the road wasn’t easy. Pioneers like Lillie Elizabeth Drennan, the first licensed female truck driver in the United States, challenged industry norms and proved that women could handle the demands of life on the road just as well as men. Drennan not only ran her own trucking company in the 1920s but also advocated for women’s inclusion in the industry — long before equal rights were even part of the national conversation.
In the 1940s, during World War II, thousands of women stepped up to fill trucking and transportation roles as men went off to war. The Women's Army Corps trained women to drive trucks, proving that women could handle heavy equipment with precision and skill. This laid the foundation for future generations of women to enter the industry with confidence and capability.
Strong Women of 6th Street Logistics
Today, women remain a driving force at 6th Street Logistics. From the office to the road, women are leading the way and helping shape the future of our company and the industry at large.
Our founder and owner, Krista Jans, has over 20 years of experience in the industry. Krista grew up seeing the inner workings of her stepdad’s trucking company, eventually managing the business herself before launching 6th Street Logistics. Her leadership, knowledge, and passion for trucking have helped create a company that values hard work, integrity, and community.
Our Office Manager, Brit Adams, is another powerhouse. Brit has been working alongside Krista for over 13 years and knows the business inside and out. Her ability to navigate the complexities of logistics with ease and her dedication to supporting drivers make her an invaluable part of our team.
Empowering the Next Generation
At 6th Street Logistics, we believe in creating opportunities for women in trucking — not just during Women’s History Month, but all year long. We actively work to recruit and support women drivers and staff, offering a family-oriented work culture, strong mentorship, and competitive opportunities for growth.
This Women’s History Month, we’re proud to celebrate the women of the past who made trucking possible — and the women of today who are shaping its future. To all the women of 6th Street Logistics and beyond — thank you for your strength, determination, and commitment. The road ahead looks bright because of you.
Happy Women’s History Month!
Love and Gratitude!

Minnesota’s First Winter Weather Advisory: A Guide to Safe Trucking This Winter
Winter has officially arrived in Minnesota, bringing the season’s first weather advisory. For truck drivers, winter weather isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s a challenge that demands extra caution, preparation, and skill. Snow, ice, and low visibility can turn even familiar routes into unpredictable terrain.
At 6th Street Logistics, we prioritize safety above all else. Whether you're driving through blizzards or navigating icy highways, these tips will help you stay safe and keep the roads safer for everyone.
1. Slow Down and Drive Defensively
Speed is the enemy when roads are slick. Lowering your speed allows your tires to maintain better traction and gives you more control over your vehicle. Adjust your speed not only to the posted limit but also to the road conditions.
Driving defensively means being aware of your surroundings and anticipating the actions of others. Give yourself plenty of time to react to sudden stops, lane changes, or vehicles sliding in front of you.
2. Leave Extra Space Between Vehicles
One of the simplest ways to stay safe on winter roads is to increase your following distance. On dry pavement, a heavy truck needs about 6 seconds of stopping time; on icy roads, that time can double or even triple. Leaving more space allows for smoother, controlled stops and reduces the risk of collisions in sudden emergencies.
3. Stay Alert and Focused
Winter driving requires your full attention. Conditions can change quickly, and other drivers may not be as prepared or cautious as you are. Stay focused by avoiding distractions like cell phones or unnecessary conversations, and keep an eye on road signs and weather advisories.
Make a habit of scanning the road ahead, checking mirrors frequently, and being mindful of blind spots. Alertness can make the difference between a close call and a preventable accident.
4. Prepare Your Equipment
Before hitting the road, ensure your truck is winter-ready:
Tires: Check tire pressure and tread depth regularly. Properly inflated, high-quality tires are crucial for maintaining traction.
Brakes: Ensure your brakes are in top condition; icy roads demand precise and reliable braking.
Lights and Wipers: Clean and test your headlights, taillights, and windshield wipers. Visibility is critical during snow or sleet.
Emergency Supplies: Always carry essentials such as a snowbrush, ice scraper, blankets, extra food and water, and a first-aid kit. Jumper cables and a bag of sand or kitty litter can also be lifesavers if you’re stuck on an icy patch.
5. Watch for Changing Weather Conditions
Minnesota weather can change rapidly. A clear morning can turn into a snowy afternoon, leaving roads treacherous. Stay informed by checking weather reports and road condition updates before and during your trip. Many states also provide road cameras and live updates online to help drivers prepare.
6. Know When to Stop
Sometimes, the best decision is to wait out the storm. If conditions become too dangerous to continue, find a safe place to park and wait until the roads are cleared or treated. No load is worth risking your life—or the lives of others on the road.
Building a Culture of Safety at 6th Street Logistics
At 6th Street Logistics, we understand that winter driving is about more than just getting from Point A to Point B. It’s about being proactive, prioritizing safety, and fostering a sense of responsibility for everyone on the road.
Our drivers are equipped with the tools and knowledge to handle the challenges of winter weather, and we encourage all trucking professionals to do the same. By slowing down, maintaining safe distances, and staying prepared, we can navigate this winter season together—safely and successfully.

Giving Back to Our Community: How 6th Street Logistics Spreads Holiday Cheer
The season of giving with 6th Street Logistics!
The holiday season is a time for gratitude, generosity, and community connection, and at 6th Street Logistics, we are proud to embrace these values not only during the holidays but throughout the year. As a company deeply rooted in service, we believe in using our resources and time to give back, strengthen our community, and support the people and organizations that make our neighborhood thrive.
This holiday season, we had the privilege of participating in several meaningful events that allowed us to live out our commitment to service and charity.
Supporting “Hope for Our City” Food Pantry
For many families, the holidays can be a time of financial strain, and food insecurity becomes an even greater challenge. That’s why we partnered with Hope for Our City, a local food pantry dedicated to providing essential resources to families in need. Our team donated trucks and time to help distribute food and supplies, ensuring that no family goes without this holiday season.
This heartwarming opportunity reminded us how small acts of service can create a ripple effect of kindness and positivity.
Turkey Bingo at the Local School
We rolled up our sleeves and lent our trucks to assist with a cherished community tradition—Turkey Bingo at our local school. This event, which benefits one of our clients, brought together families for an evening of fun and celebration, complete with the chance to win turkeys just in time for Thanksgiving!
Being a part of this event was about more than logistics; it was about showing up for the people and organizations that matter to us. Watching kids and parents laugh, cheer, and enjoy the festive atmosphere reminded us why we love being a part of this community.
Attending the Highland Friendship Club Fundraiser
Our owner, Krista Jans, attended a fundraising event for the Highland Friendship Club, an organization that provides inclusive opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The evening was an inspiring celebration of friendship, inclusion, and the power of community.
Krista’s had a great time participating in this event which mission aligns closely with our own values at 6th Street Logistics. She was honored to contribute to their efforts in creating a more inclusive world and to meet Minnesota Twins legend, Joe Mauer!
A Season (and a Year) of Giving
At 6th Street Logistics, giving back is not just something we do during the holiday season; it’s a cornerstone of who we are. Whether it’s through acts of service, partnerships with local charities, or simply showing up for our clients and neighbors, we are committed to lifting up our community however we can!
The holidays remind us of the power of connection, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to serve. To all of our friends, clients, and community members, we wish you a joyful holiday season filled with love, laughter, and togetherness.
Here’s to a new year of giving, growing, and building stronger communities—together.
